We have had a very busy weekend with a big unexpected purchase. Yesterday, David went to take my car in for a service. We had been having some engine issues (burning oil, turbo problems, transmission jumping, not starting right up, etc). While waiting for the car to be serviced, David decided to shop around the dealership to see what they had. It has really been bothering him that my car could die or the engine could blow up at any time while I was out on the road with Amelia. I really didn't want a car payment, but he decided it was time to replace my poor car. Well, he called to tell me he found a car and wanted me to come to the dealership. I loaded up Amelia and off we went to meet him. I test drove the car, and we decided to go ahead and trade ours toward the purchase of a newer, bigger, and nicer version of my car.
Here is a picture of our new purchase:
After rushing home from purchasing the car, the family members who were able came over to celebrate Father's Day for my dad. We have been holding on to his present from all of us since the family mountain trip. Dad saw this wooden box or bucket with a lid at an antique store. He loved it at first sight but didn't commit to purchasing it himself. My sister-in-law, Toni, suggested that we should all go in together to buy it for Dad for Father's Day. It was a fabulous suggestion, and we all jumped on board. Toni and Will went to secretly purchase the box and when Dad went back a few days later to purchase it (which we knew he would), it was gone. He was so disappointed. Needless to say, last night, he was SUPER SURPRISED! He can't believe that we got it for him.
This morning, Amelia gave Daddy her gifts for his first Father's Day. He received a new BaBa (Daddy in Chinese) shirt to replace the one we purchased in China. That poor shirt shrunk to half its size when I washed it. :( David was so disappointed, so I found an American store online that sold them and ordered him a new one.
He also received a new wooden pen (he has a small collection), hand stamped collar stays to remind him of his first Father's Day, and a hand stamped key chain with Amelia's adoption date and the coordinates of Chongqing to remind him of when he became a Daddy. He was really excited about his gifts but was worried that he might forget to take the collar stays out of his shirts before they were washed. Let's hope that we can both remember to check for them...
I am so blessed to have such a wonderful husband. He is a fabulous Daddy for Amelia, and I look forward to watching the bond between them continue to grow. He is convinced that he is going to teach her to be a professional sharp shooter and has already started showing her the parts to guns. As a good Daddy to a girly girl, David always makes sure Amelia's accessories match her outfit, even if he does put her bow on the wrong side of her head. I'm sure she will be the best dressed sharp shooter the world has ever seen. :)
