Trip to Key West

Our trip to Key West finally arrived! We have been planning to take this trip for months so that we could attend the wedding of Cheryl of Rob. Cheryl and I worked together for many years, and I have missed her terribly! I always told her that I would be there when she and Rob got married, so a trip to Key West was planned for their destination wedding.

David and I had been to Key West, but this was Amelia's first trip.

After waiting on the plane for over an hour due to lightning, they finally let us enter Key West! We made it just in time to check in to our hotel and attempt to see the sunset. The view from our hotel room was fantastic! Unfortunately, it began to rain when we headed down to the pier to eat. Good thing we planned to take our rain coats at the last minute!

The next morning, we woke up and hit the town. Chickens and roosters were a hit with Amelia. I don't think she believed me when I told her we would see them everywhere.

After breakfast, we went to the Key West Aquarium. Amelia is very much into sea life right now and really wanted to go see what they had.

Amelia and Daddy fed shrimp to the sting rays.

I love this picture. She wasn't so sure about having her picture made with the snake, but she decided to do it anyway.

After the aquarium, we decided to walk around town.

The Kapok Tree was a huge hit with Amelia. We went to this tree several times so she could climb on it.

By Fort Zachary Taylor, we found the Eco Discovery Center. This was a great place for Amelia. She loved reading about the sea life located in the Florida Keys.

Trying out 3-D glasses was a big hit!

After a fun day, we decided to go back to the hotel for a little swim and a shower. We would meet our friends at Mallory Square for the sunset activities (really just to see the Cat Man and then head for drinks on Duval).

The next day was another adventure around town. We went to the Southernmost Point, Amelia Street, Hemingway's House to count six-toed cats, and an art gallery.

Amelia read her new book from the Eco Discovery Center while waiting in line for our picture at the Southernmost Point.

We spent most of the afternoon at the pool, eating dinner, and shopping.

The next day was wedding day! The wedding wasn't until later in the day, so we had wonderful French brunch with Haley and Wes and then headed to the Key West Cemetery.

The wedding was so beautiful, and the newlyweds were extremely excited to finally have their special day.

Our last day in Key West was spent riding the Conch Train and having dinner on a private island. The only way to get to the island is by a special boat, which Amelia loved. The sunset was breathtaking from there. This was the only evening that it didn't rain or wasn't terribly cloudy, so we could actually see the sun set all the way.

The Captain even left Amelia steer the boat for a minute.
