Hello...KINDERGARTEN!

Bittersweet. That's Amelia's new vocabulary word for the week. She is saying goodbye to preschool and hello to kindergarten. She is feeling a little sad to leave the school she has attended for the past three years, but she is feeling VERY excited about heading to big school. We discussed how this was transition was bittersweet. Amelia felt like the word really described how she was feeling. And it is definitely the word that fits her mother. I can hardly believe that this day is here. Waking up multiple times last night gave me the time to reflect on the past three and a half years that have finally brought us to this day. My how she has grown!

This morning, Amelia lazed in bed before deciding to get ready for this big day. She requested scrambled eggs with hot sauce for breakfast, and when she came into the kitchen, a present was sitting next to her bowl. In it was a heart necklace that matched one that I got for myself. This way, if she was feeling nervous or excited, she could look at her necklace and know that I was thinking of her. In her words, "Mommy, this necklace is soooo cute. It was so sweet of you to give it to me so I could match you." After breakfast, Amelia allowed me to take a few pictures of her and off we went.

David and I took the obligatory first day of school pictures when we got to the school, and with tears in my eyes (and possibly his), we walked her to her kindergarten class. And then...we left her. David was the one lingering to take the final pictures of her in the classroom. But, we finally walked hand in hand out of the building. There were no tears from Amelia. She was happy and excited about meeting new friends and being in a new school. A friend updated me that Amelia was all smiles when she saw her an hour after we left her. That made this mommy's heart feel a little better.

Updates from Lunch

After School

Amelia claimed that her day was "great", her teacher was "sooooo sweet", the playground was her favorite, and there was only one problem - everyone only needed to bring ONE snack. She also said that she was the only person in her class that knew her lunch number, and she read a book to a friend that couldn't read very well. Amelia was excited to share the things she made and other materials from her take home folder.
