Australia Day 2 - Featherdale Wildlife Park

The second day of our Australian adventure, we visited Featherdale Wildlife Park. It was amazing! We got to pet koala bears and play with kangaroos. Kangaroos just roamed freely around the park. You could feed them and pet them. Amelia was able to see a wombat, which was her absolute mission for this trip! She was so excited! We also saw dingoes and Tasmanian devils, along with other wildlife at this park. It was definitely worth the hour plus drive that it took to get there!

After visiting the wildlife park, we took a water taxi to an Australian landmark, Harry's Famous Pies. They are known for their meat pies (think chicken or beef pot pie) topped with whip (creamed potatoes), mush (mushy green peas), and gravy. They also serve chips (fries) with gravy as a side. The food was definitely interesting and VERY British. Harry's is more of a permanent food truck, so after you get your food, you picnic where you can.

Traveling to Australia and Day 1

Australia. A continent and a country all in one. Amelia's fourth continent to visit at the age of four. If you had asked me whether we would ever have visited Australia, I would probably  have answered that as a negative. It was never anywhere I thought that we would go. And then Brit got engaged to Therese. Therese wanted to get married in her church in Sydney. They both wanted us to be involved in the wedding - David as a groomsman, Amelia as a bridesmaid, and me as a candle sponsor. So...we booked our tickets to Australia and waited for the date. During the waiting, we had a lot of big changes in our lives. Amelia started her last year as a preschooler, I got a new position as a school counselor and RuRu went to live with Jesus after fighting an all too short battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. Times were different after losing RuRu, but we had this amazing trip to look forward to. At the end of January, we packed our bags (carry-on only of course) and jetted across the world for 24 hours of traveling to our destination of Sydney, Australia.

We arrived in Sydney at 7:30 am their time and immediately adventured out to explore.

We were in awe of our surroundings and were grateful for the season of summer with 80 degree temperatures to enjoy. Therese and Brit did an excellent job of planning adventures for us. After spending a day exploring, having lunch at a yacht club on Darling Harbor, and checking into our apartment, we were exhausted! We went to bed and were ready for the next day and our next adventure.
